Loch Ness
One of the most known wetlands is the Loch Ness lake, it is known for it's mythical monster, called Loch Ness monster or Nessie for short, that is believed to live deep in the waters of the scary lake.
If you ever get the chance to go there, which I highly recommend, you'll see that it isn't scary at all, there are beaches, old ruins and a lot of green grass. The beaches though aren't sandy like in most areas here in Cambrils, they are rocky grey beaches, with pebble sized stones instead of sand.
The legends say that a monster lives in the lake, and a lot of fake pictures have been made to show that it's real. Most people believe it's just a legend, a product of imagination which could be true if you consider the foggy weather around the lake, maybe someone saw a piece of driftwood floating around through the mist and thought it was a monster.
Some interesting facts about the lake:
- It is said that the lake never freezes in spite of the cold temperatures the often go below 0ºC, that interesting phenomenon happens because cold water is heavier than warm water, so, when the cold water nears freezing temperature, it sinks, and the warm water gets on top.
- During a heavy rainfall the lochs level has been known to rise by as much as 7 feet (2.1m). The rain catchment area for Loch Ness is so large that a rainfall of just quarter of an inch adds 11.000.000 tons of water to the loch.
In my opinion, the Loch Ness legend is just a legend to scare children from swimming in the lake, based on nothing but stories. And the people that share fake photos of the monster just want to be popular on the internet.
